What types of services does C&M Group provide?
C&M Group is an entrepreneurial strategy consulting firm, which focuses on growth and new product innovation. We provide consulting services for businesses of all sizes, from consulting for startups to Fortune 500 companies.
What inspired you to found your consulting business?
I founded the C&M Group because companies and startups are dissatisfied with the traditional methods for consulting. Many of the larger firms can be viewed as the stereotypical agency that does not necessarily give their personal advice through experience. C&M Group was founded to change this approach by joining entrepreneurial thinkers and innovators with business owners to make effective change in organizations.
When launching the business, what went well, and what could have gone better?
When C&M launched, we were able to introduce our service offering to clients fairly easy. Initially, we wanted to do everything that our clients asked for, including areas that were not our specialty, such as website design and UI/UX. Although our firm is open to doing these types of projects, we made the decision to focus on our strengths of business development and strategy, to maximize the value we provide to our clients.
We learned that consulting is not a sprint, but a marathon. Since we have started putting more emphasis on developing strong ties with customers, for the long-term, versus, focusing on the immediate sale.
Tell us how you got your first client and your plans for growth.
The first client came through our personal network, while we are able to sustain for a period of time, this is not everlasting. To focus on building our client base, we stepped up our content marketing and social media marketing strategy to grow our customer base.
We have found that we are able to convert customers that are attracted to the content into paying customers because they know we are an authentic source for strategy consulting advice. We have seen an almost 58% increase in customer acquisition rates since our content marketing and social media marketing strategy’s have improved. As we continue to focus on our client relationships, C&M Group will continue to grow. Initially, we plan to grow organically with the growth being supported from our current team. As our engagements grow in size and frequency, we will expand as needed to meet our client’s needs.
What separates your consulting services from other firms in the market?
What separates us from all of our major competitors is that we are entrepreneurs ourselves. We understand the ups and downs, the struggles, the daily grind and the emotional toll that entrepreneurs go through. We are able to draw from our experience and incorporate this into the services that we provide to our clients, giving us a unique perspective on the keys to startup success.
Tell us what you have learned that you would now do differently, had you known ahead of time.
If I could start over, I would have spent more time networking and connecting with other entrepreneurs who either are in need of our services, or could recommend us to potential clients. With this in mind, I would have been more focused on the long-term growth of C&G Group, instead of focusing on short=term gains.
Tell us what advice you would give to new start-up entrepreneur thinking about a start-up.
Start-up life is extremely difficult. When looking to start a company, make sure you can dedicate enough time to the development of your organization. Initially, the word “no” can be seen as a major turn off, it is actually a sign that your startup is doing more than what the organization is comfortable of, which is good! Comfort is a sign of stagnated growth, which is something you should stay away from.
Being in a start-up will allow you to finally work for something other than what your boss suggests. You will be pushed to your limits, and will come out of the experience with a considerable amount of experience.
